A page with no internal links pointing at it is an orphan: hard to find, rarely crawled, weakly ranked. A page linked from many relevant pages is the opposite. Search engines read the link graph as a map of what the site thinks matters.
The common failure is a star shape, where every page links to the homepage and nothing links sideways. A cluster, where a pillar page links to every post and every post links to the pillar and two siblings, is what passes authority around. Our audit found exactly this problem on this site before it was fixed.
